Discount Converter announces the addition of Walker Direct Fit Oxygen Sensors.

Discount Converter, Ltd. is proud to announce the addition of Walker Direct Fit OEM Type Oxygen Sensors. We carry the exact replacements for most cars and light trucks, import and domestic. These sensors have the factory socket clip that easily integrates with the vehicles data-wiring harness.

Walker Product's Oxygen Sensors are precision made for outstanding performance and manufactured to meet and exceed all original equipment specifications and test requirements. The oxygen sensor is located within the exhaust system. Vehicles 1996 and newer are OBDII and will have two O2 sensors, one in front (pre-cat) and one behind (post-cat) the converter. Vehicles with dual exhaust will have four oxygen sensors. Their function is to determine the oxygen content of the exhaust gas. Since the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas is a good indictor of combustion efficiency, this is also the best place to monitor the air fuel ratio. There are basically two types of after market oxygen sensors, Direct Fit O2 Sensors and Universal O2 Sensors. The difference between the two is important, the Direct Fit O2 Sensor has the OEM socket clip that connects smoothly with the vehicles wiring harness. It is a male female relationship and snaps together exactly like the original factory sensor. A Universal O2 sensor has bare wires which must be physically soldered into the vehicles data-wiring harness. This will require the removal of the original receiving clip on the vehicle and then stripping wires so they may be soldered together with the wires on the universal sensor. This connection may not be taped or twisted together...it must be soldered so as to minimize resistance. Shown on the left and right are two examples of Direct Fit O2 Sensors, below and to the right is an example of a universal sensor.Universal O2 sensors are a little less expensive than their Direct Fit counter parts, but remember O2 sensors read exhaust gases, then send that data in millivolts to the vehicles on board computer for processing. If the data is corrupted or not in range the computer will error out and a trouble code or check engine light will show. Since a universal O2 sensor must be spliced and soldered into the data-wiring stream, many times resistance will be encountered at the splice point. When a sensor reads and transmits in millivolts it takes very little resistance for it to feed bad information to the cars computer. Discount Converter, Ltd. only sells Direct Fit OEM Type Oxygen Sensors, which use the snap together factory socket clip to mate with the vehicles data-wiring stream, thus eliminating any chance of resistance and the transmission of bad data.
If you are purchasing a new catalytic converter make absolutely sure you have checked the condition of the O2 sensors. The primary reason for catalytic converter failure is usually a bad oxygen sensor. If the O2 sensors on your vehicle are original and a new converter is being installed...REPLACE THE SENSORS! A bad O2 sensor can destroy a new catalytic converter in just a few weeks by causing a too rich or too lean fuel mixture, which then creates a melt down of the substrate or inner core of the new converter. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend replacement of the Oxygen Sensors at 60,000-mile intervals.
